Wrinkles reduction

Botulinum Toxin Treatments

A wrinkle is a fold, ridge or crease in the skin. Skin wrinkles typically appear as a result of aging processes, loss of body mass, or temporarily, as the result of prolonged immersion in water. Age wrinkling in the skin is promoted by habitual facial expression, aging, sun damage, smoking, poor hydration, and various other factors.

What causes wrinkles?

Aging

As you get older, your skin naturally becomes less elastic and more fragile. The decrease in production of natural oils causes your skin to be drier and appeared more wrinkled. Fat in the deeper layers of your skin, which gives the skin a plump appearance, starts to diminish. This causes skin to loosen and become saggy and lines and crevices become more prominent.

Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light

Ultraviolet radiation greatly speeds up the natural aging process and is the primary cause of early wrinkling. Exposure to UV light breaks down your skin’s connective tissue – collagen and elastin fibers, which lie in the deeper layer of skin (dermis). Without the supportive connective tissue, your skin loses its strength and flexibility. As a result, skin begins to sag and wrinkle prematurely.

Smoking

Smoking affects the blood supply to your skin, hence accelerates the normal aging process and contributing to wrinkles.

Repeated facial expressions

Facial movements and expressions, such as squinting or smiling, lead to fine lines and wrinkles. Each time you use a facial muscle, a groove forms beneath the surface of the skin. And as skin ages, it loses its flexibility and is no longer able to spring back in place. These grooves then become permanent features on your face.

Gender

Women tend to develop more wrinkles around their mouths (perioral) than men do. That may be due to women have fewer sweat glands and glands that secrete an oily matter known as sebum (sebaceous glands) to lubricate the skin and fewer blood vessels in this area.

Poor nutrition

Nutritional deficiencies are believed to contribute to aging to skin.

Botulinum Toxin treatment for Wrinkles

Wrinkle injection is a very popular procedure approved by FDA for reducing wrinkles and rejuvenating the aging face.

The process of aging and repeated facial expressions, such as squinting and frowning, gradually creates permanent creases and lines which often leave the face looking tired and negative. Wrinkle smoothing injections are a safe and effective way to smooth away these lines and gently reduce signs of aging.

At Celevenus, we believe in a soft approach to wrinkle relaxing, avoiding the frozen look and allowing the patient natural movement and expression.

Wrinkle smoothing injections typically last between 4 to 6 months, when the treatment can be repeated to maintain the effect. Many people find that after several treatments the effects last longer and require a top up at 6 months.*

Brands of Botulinum Toxin Type A Injections

There are three popular and approved brands of Botulinum Toxin type A for injection in Singapore, namely Dysport, Botox and Xeomin. Their efficacies are very similar, and they differ mainly through their dilution methods, concentration and dosing to produce the desired results. A skilled physician will be able to produce the same results with all three different brands.

What are Botulinum Toxin Injections used for?

Treatment areas

  • Glabellar frown lines
  • Forehead creases
  • Crow’s feet
  • Infra Orbital
  • Wrinkles on Neck
  • Bunny lines on the nose
  • Lines above lips (smoker’s lines)
  • Eyebrow Lift
  • Square Jaw Reduction
  • Calf Reduction

Advanced Botox/Dysport Injection procedures also treated:

  • Marionette Lines – Lift the droopy folds at the corners of the mouth alleviating the sad appearance that can occur with ageing
  • Dimpled Chin (wrinkled appearance of the chin) – Treatment can help to smooth unwanted “golf ball” skin
  • Droopy Jowls – Treatment will lift the skin
  • Gummy Smile – An elevated lip can be relaxed to reveal less gums for a more attractive smile
  • Facial Contouring & Tightening – Treatment will give a more defined jawline

health reasons

  • Migraine/headaches
  • Excessive Sweaty Armpit, Palms and Foot
  • Uncontrolled blinking
  • Teeth Grinding

The following areas are commonly treated with Botulinum Toxin Injections:

Glabellar Lines (also known as Frown Lines)

Frown lines are those vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows as a result of frowning, scowling, or merely focusing while reading or listening. Sometimes bad eyesight or insufficient corrective lenses can contribute to the muscle contractions that deepen the glabellar lines.

Horizontal Forehead Creases

Forehead wrinkles appear as horizontal lines on the forehead which are more prominent when you raise your eyebrows. Getting rid of forehead wrinkles depends on defining the cause of the wrinkles.

For patients with dynamic wrinkles (those caused by active movement), Botulinum toxin injections is the best, minimally invasive way to address your forehead wrinkles.

For static wrinkles (those already present without contracting your forehead muscles), Botulinum toxin injections may help soften these wrinkles but will not cause them to completely go away. You may need additional procedures, such as filler or laser treatments, to improve your results.

Crow’s Feet & Infra-orbital (under eye) Lines

Crow’s feet are found in the outer corner of the eyes. They appear more prominent when smiling or laughing. They occur as the skin becomes less elastic with age, combined with excessive sun exposure. Botulinum toxin injections at the side of the eyes are best non-invasive medical treatment to soften the wrinkles and provide a subtle lift.

neck lines

Botulinum toxin injections can be used to treat a specific concern for neck lines. It is used to soften vertical neck bands. In some cases, depending on the degree, Botox can also help soften some creepiness as well. Horizontal wrinkles however are better treated using skin resurfacing treatment like Fractional lasers or Radiofrequency / HIFU combined with softer filler such as Sculptra or Juvederm.

bunny lines

Bunny lines are wrinkles at the top of the nose which can appear when squinting or frowning and can be successfully treated with Botulinum toxin injections.

smoker's lines (on upper lip)

Smoker’s lines appear around the mouth above the top tip. They can occur in non-smokers but can appear more prominent in smokers. Botulinum toxin injections can minimize muscle motion above the top lip and helps to reduce their appearance.

eyebrow lift

Botulinum toxin injections can be used to eliminate forehead wrinkles. At the same time a small amount injected into the infrared region laterally will elevate the brow and give a small lift. This can open a person eyes and for woman giving them a more youthful appearance.

marionette lines

Patients look old and unhappy when the corners of their mouth turn down. Botulinum toxin injections can help to lift the corner of the mouth so that you won’t have a sad appearance.

dimpled chin

The chin can be treated to give a less bulky and dimpled appearance which tends to occur as we age. Using Botulinum toxin injections will reduce the movement of your chin muscles, filler will probably be added to help your creases. Often both filler and Botulinum toxin injections are required to give the best result.

gummy smile

A gummy smile can be corrected with Botulinum toxin injections as a temporary solution. It works by paralyzing the hyperactive muscles in the upper lips, reducing its elevation and ultimately reducing the ‘gummy smile’.

calf reduction

All women dream of having beautiful elongated, toned legs, but often we have wide calves which we find it difficult to change through exercise. Botulinum toxin injections offers a subtle form of calf reduction. Botulinum toxin is injected at multiple places at the lower limb area which results in the inactivity of calf muscles.

Dermal Lift Botulinum Toxin Injections

Dermal Lift is one of the most popular non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments in Korea. Dermal Lift involves micro-injections of Botulinum Toxin to lift, re-contour the face, and rebalance the effects of sagging and ageing skin. Dermal Lift not only creates a tighter, firmer and more lifted face, it also imparts a smooth, seemingly pore less, whole-day “powdered” look that lasts for up to 4 – 6 months.

This procedure removes or reduces the appearance of wrinkles and sagging of the face caused by age. It is non-invasive, fast and yet effective, that is why many patients come for regular Derma Lift injections every year.

how does it work?

This precise application of Botulinum Toxin will inject into the skin layer at specific points on the face. These injections stimulate the fibroblast cells in the skin layer to produce more collagen. They also stimulate and reorganize the cellular cytoskeleton of the skin cells to bind to more elastin and collagen. The Botulinum Toxin will also cause direct tightening of the skin via its action on the smooth muscles.

The result is an instant skin tightening and face lifting effect which gets better in the next 1 – 2 weeks. The effect lasts for about 4 – 6 months. Repeated treatment can be done to maintain the V-Lift effect. Numbing cream is applied prior to the treatment to minimize any discomfort. This procedure is very tolerable for most patients. Downtime is very minimal. Small needle marks and swelling are expected right after treatment and will resolve within hours. You can resume your daily activities immediately after treatment.

Dermal Lift is suitable for young to middle aged male and female patients with mild skin sagging and wrinkling, who are looking to have a non-surgical instant face lift procedure with minimal downtime. Patients with severe skin sagging may require a combination of Dermal Lift with other Face Lift treatment. Dermal Lift can be done concurrently with other face lifting and tightening treatment for more results.

What results do I expect?

  • Fresher looking eyes
  • Tighter facial skin
  • Natural V lifted face
  • More contour jawline
  • Reduction in fine wrinkles

How does Botulinum toxin injections work?

A small amount of Botulinum toxin injections is injected into a muscle, it blocks nerve signals that tell your muscles to contract. The effect is that it temporarily weakens or paralyzes the facial muscles and smoothed or eliminates wrinkles in the skin for a few months.

Botulinum toxin injections is known as a ‘lunchtime procedure’ because patients can return to their daily activities, including work, immediately.

Most side effects if any are temporary and localized to the treatment areas. Some soreness and mild bruising can be easily covered up with makeup. Drooping eyelids and drooping eyebrows may last for a few weeks but are temporary too.

Immediately following your treatment, you are advised to avoid exercise and hot baths to prevent sweating out the Botox. We also recommend avoiding massaging or rubbing the area for 24 hours after the treatment has been injected.

How well it works*

Within 72 hours after treatment, most people will be able to see the wrinkles being partly or completely smoothen out. This treatment is not to stop all expression, but to reduce the intensity of the muscle activity that causes the lines in the areas treated.

The full effect may take up to 2 weeks to be seen. The results may last from 4 to 6 months. It is recommended to receive the treatment twice a year for best results.

Things like saunas, sunbeds and going to the gym regularly, can break down the product quicker.
