Skin laxity

WHAT IS SKIN LAXITY?

As we age, so does our skin. Skin becomes looser. This is called skin laxity. Many people don’t realize that making better choices during their younger years can help avoid skin laxity when they grow old. Some faces show “jowling” as early as the 30s. Skin laxity can attack all skin types and all age groups. Both men and women get skin laxity. As with all signs of aging, prevention should be the main focus. It is a lot easier to prevent something from occurring than it is to reverse it once it has happened.

WHAT CAUSES SKIN LAXITY?

Environmental stress on elastin and collagen fibers in the skin can cause laxity. Sun exposure, poor dietary habits and stress are also factors. As we age, laxity worsens. Gravity also plays a huge role in pulling looser skin in a downward direction. When the skin becomes so loose it hangs.

Laxity of the skin can occur anywhere on the body. Lax skin is often the most noticeable on the face, but may also be prevalent on the jawline, neck, hands, abdomen, and thighs. Skin laxity affects targeted areas by increasing fine, crinkly lines and wrinkles, causing puffiness and bags under the eyes. This condition can exacerbate the appearance of age and detract from one’s natural beauty.

Although skin laxity is normal and inevitable part of the aging process but there are things you can do to prevent skin laxity from occurring. There are a few effective treatments that can tighten lax skin or add volume, and the sooner you act the more you will prevent further laxity from occurring.

Prevention can reduce the likelihood of having gone under surgeries to correct the laxity, but instead able to use non-surgical options to correct the problems.
